I make my work, first and foremost, for those I care about. Love, tenderness, and connection are the essential aspects of my current practice. I draw from personal photos and video footage in my interdisciplinary work that is based in groupings, calendars, and memories.

My experience of growing up homeschooled still affects me and my interactions with the world. I know that the novelty of having a group of close friends and the chance to learn and work with them is fleeting. During my time thus far in graduate school, I have realized the importance of capturing memories of the people around me to try and ensure we all have something to remember. My hope is that whether you are these people, you know these people, or you know someone like these people, my art will remind you to record your own memories and to cherish the people you love for however long you have them in your life.

In my ongoing body of work, I seek to address the translation and adaptation of photos and videos taken from personal collections. These works seek to record the growing and shifting dynamics of a social group with an emphasis on themes of friendship, how people perform in different spaces, and the process of making as an act of care and love. My work attempts to create a sense of domesticity and comfort in otherwise sterile or academic environments. The presentation mirrors the conceptual attempts to create a sense of home within an academic setting.

I am interested in how viewers respond to my work; can someone with no relationship to the figures portrayed still see the love between a mother and her children, or feel the care and support between clips of a group of friends taken over a year? I am currently exploring a wide range of media and how the different qualities, such as the difference between a screenprint or a video, can convey the meaning and emotion I am sharing with viewers.
